The Lenten Cross Outreach

This Lent people all over the world will experience the triumph of God’s mercy, one nail at a time.

Help support the Missionaries of Our Lady of    Divine Mercy by taking up the cross this lent.  We are looking for organizations, schools and churches to receive wooden crosses with nails in them.  Each nail will contain a particular need for the House of Mercy both here and abroad.  People can take the tags off the cross and return them with the material or financial assistance to help the poor experience the mercy and love of Christ

Lenten Appeal

 Get Involved

The time for mercy is now.  The person to offer it is you. Our ministry depends on every member of the body of Christ using his gifts to spread the message of God’s mercy.  Many people write to us asking, “What can I do if I am homebound but what to assist you?”  Others say, “I want to help the poor but I don’t know where to begin.”

Each person has a unique gift they can share with others.  Here are just a few of the ways that you can be a Missionary in our ministry.

  • Volunteer your time – One of the most precious gifts people can share is their time.  We have a great need for people to help us with our Passport to Hope program ranging from administrative duties to working directly with our families to distribute aid.  We are servants to the poor.  If you would like to join us please e-mail Diane Hattler at DivineMercyNow@gmail.com.
  • Organize a food drive or coat drive – The Missionaries of Our Lady of Divine Mercy distribute thousands of pounds of food to the poor and are in great need of schools, youth groups and civic organizations to help us collect non-perishable food items.  Every can of food counts and will relieve the suffering of a hungry person.  Coats are also essential and beginning in October the demand for coats, especially for children is more than we have in resources.  By coordinating a food/coat drive you will be helping hundreds of children and their families receive essential items and let them know that they are loved.
  • Plan an I HUNGER FOR MERCY event – This is one of the best ways to get youth involved by raising awareness of poverty, promoting advocacy, prayer and service and helping us continue our works of mercy by collecting financial donations.  If you are interested in learning more about I Hunger for Mercy. button_here.jpg (button_here.jpg)
  • Make Super Bowl Sunday “Super” for the Poor Each year Americans watch the most anticipated game in football.  While eating with family and friends, commercials scroll through the program costing millions of dollars.  We are asking people to remember the poor and underprivileged that weekend by collecting financial donations in “soup” kettles after church services.  Each dollar raised helps us continue the programs that make a difference in the lives of the people we serve.  It is an excellent opportunity for youth groups, cub scouts or other organizations to promote awareness and service on a day that many will be forgotten.
  • This Lenten Season make help others to carry their cross Our Lenten cross appeal began in 2008 in response to the tremendous need for food, diapers, car seats and beds for the needy families we serve.  Creating a wooden cross and attaching nails to it – all over it, families attending church had the opportunity to take a tag off of one of the nails and replace it with a flower.  Each tag contained a specific need such as Rice, beans and Oil, the gift of sponsoring a child, a new car seat, or varying financial donations.  Each week families would return the gifts and place them beneath the cross. The cross then becomes a beautiful witness to God’s love and mercy during the season of Lent.
  • Offer a prayer or holy hour on behalf of the poor and underprivileged – Your prayers are the life of our ministry.  Whether it’s a personal petition or a favorite novena, each prayer is valued by our families.  We also have donors and friends of our ministry write to us from all over the world requesting prayers for their personal intentions.  We ask you to pray for them too.  Your gift of prayer is like rain that nourishes the soil.  Please pray for our work to continue.
